A língua inglesa é fruto de uma história complexa e enraizada num passado muito distante.
É falada no Reino Unido, nos Estados Unidos, no Canadá, na Irlanda, na Austrália, na Nova Zelândia, na África do Sul, entre outros países. Estima-se que existam 300 milhões de falantes nativos e 300 milhões que usam Inglês como segunda língua e mais 100 milhões a utilizá-lo como uma língua estrangeira. É a língua da ciência, aviação, computação, diplomacia e turismo. Está listada como a língua oficial ou co-oficial de mais de 45 países e é utilizada em outros países onde ela não tem qualquer estatuto oficial.

It is spoken in the UK, the United States, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, among other countries. It is estimated that there are 300 million native speakers and 300 million who use English as a second language and a further 100 million use it as a foreign language. It is the language of science, aviation, computing, diplomacy and tourism. It is listed as the official or co-official language of over 45 countries and is spoken extensively in other countries where it has no official status.

The history of every language is unique, because each language is inherently bound to the thinking, nature, and spirit of a people, all of which are continuously altered by the twists and turns of events.
